There are now free software available for the iPhone and the Blackberry to alert users of approaching red light and speed cameras.
It uses the GPS functionality of the phones and some programming smarts.
The software also allows users to collect new camera locations, which will be added to the vendor’s database.

It is a good marketing scheme by the vendor. A little freebie for users to use initially and hopefully users will move on to the dedicated GPS products offered by the vendor.

Not that this is new technology, GPS units and other gadgets have been around for a few years that have the same functionality, to warn users of upcoming safety cameras.

These cameras are there for a reason, to remind people speeding kills. Some might disagree and think safety cameras are revenue generating devices installed by the government.

Just slow down and stop playing with your i-toy while driving.

Drive below the speed limit and the road will be a safer place for everyone.
