The Internet has came a long way since it was originally built in the 1960s as a military-funded distributed computers network in the US.

In the mid 1990s was when the technology took off.  It has evolved from a text based interface to a rich multimedia experience where billions of people around the world can now enjoy.

Everyone is so reliant on the Internet for emails every day.  Friends and relatives around the world video-chat daily, saving heaps on long distance calls.  Businesses use the technology to ensure their computer systems are available around the world.  The Internet has changed the way we interact and go about doing our daily chores.

Just the other day, I was video-chatting with my dad who is in Malaysia.  He doesn’t even know what a computer looks like.  :-)   He has never touch a computer and all he knows is look at the webcam and chat.  My niece had to setup the computer for him.  I am sure video-chatting can be simpler in the not-too-far future.

Younger generations are more accustomed with the Internet as they were born in this era.  They just use it like my dad uses the telephone.  Facebook and online gamings are what they are really enjoying now.  Take away the Internet, I am sure they will feel like a fish-out-of-water. ;-)
